Advanced Russian C2 vocabulary exercises 

The following exercises were designed to:

  • help you gauge your level of preparation for the TRKI-4;
  • help you boost your already advanced vocabulary that will be put to test during the grammar-lexical part;
  • teach you the skill of being able to accurately duplicate, negate and reframe the meaning of a phrase or sentence–a skill especially important during the speaking part.

  • Я, как носитель русского языка, заявляю, что это пиздец! ХЗ, как иностранцы должны это сдавать, потому что большинство слов я впервые слышу. Много слов нихуя не подходят как синонимы, да и вообще многие слова из теста в жизни не используются. Короче, я ебал этот русский.

    • Все правильно, нейтивы этот экзамен в реале так и сдают. Процентов на 80%
      С2 уровень по русскому предназначен для филологов-переводчиков или для поступления в аспирантуру на филфаке.

    • Дорогие не-носители, если вы решаете этот тест, то я искренне вам сочувствую. Во-первых, в тесте есть ошибки. Во-вторых, его не могут правильно решить даже носители языка, потому что так никто не разговаривает.

  • Hi, I’m hoping I can get some support here. I found this page thanks to “howtogetfluent.com” It has been a great source of motivation for me to see how far so many have made it with Russian. It has allowed me to dream again. It has always been my dream to speak and understand Russian, but I was discouraged by closed-minded people. I finally said, screw them. Imagine had I started 5 years ago where I would be now! Anyway, I don’t care about those people, and I’m going after this and they better stay out of my way.

    But anyway, I have been studying Russian for one month, every single day, and I just had a terrible lesson. I just want to cry. I couldn’t even say tall trees. выокые горы – I know the word, I know how to conjugate the adjectives (slowly), but I just couldn’t produce it. (Fortunately, I recorded my lesson and I’m going to make Anki cards for every mistake I made. I am so pissed!)

    But I’m going though such a mix of emotions and feeling ridiculous for even thinking of the трки4! But I’m trying to learn from other’s experiences so that I can plan. My goal is to pass this test in 5 years. But after today’s lesson, man, I’m not sure if that will ever happen. And it hurts because I’m not the type who does not practice. I literally have been trying to take advantage of this momentum and passion I have: doing my online course, reading my graded readers, writing my little 3 paragraph essays in Russian, and then having my one-on-one Zoom sessions with my teacher. I’m putting in hours. So, it’s a rough day. I will continue, but I feel a little beat up today. Just wanted to be honest about this journey.

  • Hello. I am Russian and I have thoughts about this test. Some of these words and expressions are local and I do not know them, although I have lived in Russia all my life . For example, in Irkutsk, none of my peers calls a fine rain “ситничек”, and a chatterbox “звонарь”. In addition, some words in the test contain typos. Thank you for your attention.

    • Swift, welcome to the site. Typos and other mistakes happen, whenever visitors point them out, I make necessary corrections immediately. I’m still learning Russian nearly every day and it’ll always be a work in progress for me.

      As for the test, it’s designed to help with passing the fourth level of the exam. I’ve said in numerous articles, also outside of this blog, that the test has little to do with how people speak in real life. It has everything with the kind of vocabulary that appears on the test.

    • I’d recommend reading some gulag literature. There are so many words in Russian that refer to rain and snow.

  • I admit I’ve been living on this website for the better part of a year now… My Russian got an incredibly huge kick from this. Not only that, I also now understand,more or less, what the trki 4 is actually asking you in different parts, and how you go about teaching it to yourself. I am astounded someone, a foreigner at that,was able to pin this all down, bit by bit, basically decode the monstrosity that is the trki. I wish there was a handbook like this in print. I hope in the future you will consider .pdf-ing this site.

      Англ филолог, троешник. Забыл универ, как страшный сон в 2010м)) да, непросто. Да, надо подумать. Да, надо знать архаизмы и осмысленно читать контекст. Но все вполне логично и понятно.

  • Есть ли разница между коллаборацией и коллаборационизмом? Мне всегда казалось что они означают одно и тоже.

    • Эти слова не синонимы а паронимы. Коллаборация–это сотрудничество, совместная работа. Коллаборационизм–это работа на благо врага, чаще всего за денги.

      • Все верно и, как ни странно, слова коллаборант и коллаборационист тем неменее равнозначны. Сложно объяснить как так получилось, но это так.

  • какая разница между словом иждивенец и нахлебник? всегда использовал их как синонимы…

    • Слово иждивенец не иммеет отрицательного оттенка. Часто говорится про <<иждивенскую нагрузку>> на граждан–это про детей и других родственников, которых содержат другие взрослые граждание. О неработающем супруге говорится, что он или она <<находиться на иждивении>> своего супруга. Это констатация факта. Слово нахлебник, в свою очередь, иммеет четкое отрицательное значение. Нахлебник–это тот, кто <<живет на чужих хлебах>>, халявщик, прихлебала.

    • Любое слово или выражение приобретает негативное значение интонацие и голосом(то, как мы произносим то или иное слово) к примеру, по доброму жена утром зовет безработного мужа — иди кушать, нахлебник или иди кушать, иждевенец – это грубовато, вежливее иди кушать, мой нахлебничек, или иди кушать, мой иждевенец. Но так никто никогда не говорит. Иди жрать(кушать) скотина(тварь, падла). Вот это грубое обращение внутри близкого круга, обычно в семье. Но если сказать это по доброму, то звучит почти вежливо.

  • Wow, I had no clue Russian uses that many anglicisms nowadays! Do you hear or read them often, I wonder? I don’t suppose Russians are very happy about those knowing their attachment to their native русский…

    • You do hear them a lot and they do hate them for the most part. You hear these lot on Russian daytime TV, and I often come across them while translating business correspondence. Some of these words just really don’t have counterparts in the Russian language, or if they do, they’re too convoluted to be used in news briefs and such.

  • I wonder if antonyms would be of any use during the exam? I get synonyms and the like, but antonyms? Can they be applied to any of the exam tasks?

    • Почему же? У Вас получается более 50% при том, что для сдачи экзамена нужно заграбастать 66%. Еще чуть-чуть поработаете и все получится.

    • У меня первый результат был значительно хуже вашего. Я провел на этом сайте в совокупности 4 недели, по несколько часов в день и еще тремя неделями позже сдал ТРКИ-4 на 72%
